Being misunderstood by others is constantly on my mind, not specifically in regard to myself, rather people in general. One personal experience that had serious impact for me was when I was told I couldn’t create something I was compelled to make based on inferences that were made about me.
That experience brought with it a lot of harsh feelings and eventually ignited a spark. That flicker developed into an exploration of perception as it applied to me and others; and how the subconscious of the viewer can play into those perceptions.
These pieces are intended to engage their audience to make an initial judgement before closer interaction allows them to discover the character’s traits that identify the individuals. My purpose is to encourage self-examination by forcing people to question their initial perceptions of other individuals.
